Exploring the theme of social integration through film
On Monday, 19 June 2017, UNIS Geneva organized a screening of the short film "No Monsters in Berlin". Presented on the sidelines of the thematic session for the Global Compact on Migration which took place at the Palais des Nations on 19-20 June, and ahead of World Refugee Day, this 15-minute film tells the story of an Indian immigrant running from her past who forms a bond with a Syrian refugee in the city of new beginnings. The film was created in collaboration with Syrian refugees as members of the cast, crew and creative team.
The executive producer and lead actress Mala Ghedia joined for the screening of her film “No Monsters in Berlin”, winner of the 2017 Diversity in Cannes Short Films Showcase.
After the film, a discussion on the theme of integration followed with actress Mala Ghedia, Leigh Foster, Chief of Events, Campaigns and Goodwill Ambassadors at the UN Refugee Agency, and Alfredo Zamudio, Director of the Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue in Norway. The moderation of the discussion was done by Leonard Doyle, Spokesperson for the International Organization for Migration.
